Periodontal Therapy
Early stage gum disease, gingivitis, can be treated with more regular hygiene appointments. Left untreated, the disease progresses and destroys soft tissue and supportive alveolar bone that supports teeth. When this occurs, we perform a more complex cleaning procedure called scaling and root planing. The scaling process is a systematic removal of buildup and damaged tissue, and root planing is a smoothing of tooth roots to prevent buildup and gum damage in the future.
